Best of foreign Cinema - Drama, culture and classics

I am taking a break from writing to articulate on certain topics that i will elaborate in lengthy articles. Two topics i currently have in my mind. I will get deep into problem of Indian human resources and its remedies. And obviously about industrial policy and global realignment. On global realignment, everything is in flux right now and i don't know what is a suitable narrative to fit everything into.  


For now, here are some good film recommendations to watch. 


An Average Little Man (1977)


A film begins as a comedy with a man trying petty schemes and bribes to get his son into government service. Part comedy, part something else. A combination of two completely different genres, a masterpiece of Italian cinema.


Jean de Florette (1986)



A cunning landlord plans to takeover land of his neighbor by sabotaging his farm.  The film demonstrates the concept of human greed and its consequences.


Manon des Sources (1986)



Immediate sequel to film Jean de Florette and conclusion of story line. 


White Balloon (1995)



Girl goes to buy goldfish in the market but her money falls into drain pit. She asks various people for help.


Life is beautiful (1997)



A man wins over upper class women with his humor and wits in old Italy. But life turns around with start of World War 2 and targeting of Jews. 


Secrets & Lies (1996)


An adopted woman decides to meet with her biological mother and cultivate a relationship.


Three Colours trilogy - Blue, White and Red (1993)



Representing three colors of French flag, trilogy of French Drama. Should be seen in sequence of Blue, White and Red.



A Very Long Engagement (2004)




A women goes on a journey to find her missing husband presumed to be killed in First world war.


Red Beard (1959)



A Japanese doctor tries his best to serve needs of the sick in the old Japan.


Seven Samurai (1954)



Village farmers hire seven samurais to defend against attack by bandits.


Day of the Jackal (1973)



A thriller about an assassin who is recruited to kill French President DeGaulle.


The Organizer (1963)


A high school teacher helps textile factory worker's union to stand up against greedy bosses.


Under the Flag of the Rising Sun (1972)



A Japanese women searches for truth about her soldier husband who died in World War 2.


Lethal Hostage (2012)



A Burmese drug trafficker's life gets complicated when he takes a kid hostage. 


My friends (1975)


Italian dark comedy about a bunch of friends who makes practical jokes that often go too far. 



Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)



In future, there's a technology that can erase specific memories. Two lovers break up and decide to erase their past relationship. 



District 9 (2009)



A good sci-fi film



I, Daniel Blake (2016)


A film about unemployed man who struggles in British welfare system. The film depicts the austerity and Neoliberal culture of UK economy.
