Yesterday, Modi visited the Vatican city and met with Pope. I can't speculate on what went in the meeting behind closed doors but public gestures made by Pope towards Modi conveyed some disappointing messages, specially to the people of India living under the oppressive rule of dictatorial Modi regime. Hindutva is a political ideology born as a product of cross breeding between religious militant organizations and opportunistic politicians who use Hindutva for advancement of their political career. Hindutva should not be confused with Hinduism. Hinduism is a religion while Hindutva is a political ideology. Ideology of Hindutva existed since long and can be traced as far back as pre independence. But the entry of Hindutva into mainstream politics happened in 1990s with rise of BJP and its politics of religious populism. This was the time when religious militant organizations found their way into mainstream politics and political parties.
